GENERIC NAME: losartan and hydrochlorothiazide
BRAND NAME: Hyzaar
DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Hyzaar is a combination of losartan (Cozaar) and hydrochlorothiazide and is used for treating high blood pressure. For more information, please see the information for each of the two component drugs.
PREPARATIONS: Tablets containing 50mg of losartan and 12.5mg of hydrochlorothiazide.
STORAGE: Tablets should be stored at room temperature, between 15-30°C (59-86°F) and protected from excessive light and humidity. They should be kept in a tightly-closed, light-resistant container.
PRESCRIBED FOR: Hyzaar is used to treat patients with high blood pressure. It has sbeen shown to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy except in African-American patients.
DOSING: Hyzaar usually is taken once or twice daily.
