Why is this medication prescribed?
Rimarex (Generic Manerix/Aurorix - moclobemide) is used to treat depression and panic. Rimarex (Generic Manerix/Aurorix -moclobemide) is an antidepressant drug of the reversible inhibitor of Monamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOI). This medication mostly used when other antidepressants did not help.
How should this medicine be used?
Initially, 300mg daily in divided doses taken after food, increased up to 600mg daily according to patient response.
What side effects can this medication cause?
- Sleeping difficulties
- Dizziness, headache, confusion, agitation, anxiety, irritability, restlessness, paraesthesia, dry mouth, visual disturbances
- gastro-intestinal complaints (such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, loss of appetite)
- skin reactions
- hypotension
Patients with suicidal tendencies should be closely monitored at the commencement of treatment.
What special precautions should I follow?
- You must follow the dietary guidelines strictly.
- Do not eat food or drink beverages with tyramine while taking MAOI's.
- Foods that should be avoided are: Pickles, Lox, Dry Sausage, Herring, Liver, Broad beans, Raisins, Figs, Avocados, Cheese , Yogurt, Wine, Beer, Hard Liquor, Sherry, Caffiene, Licorice, Soy Sauce.
- When takeing (Generic Manerix/Aurorix - moclobemide) with certain drinks or other medicines it can cause very dangerous reactions such as sudden high blood pressure.
- Do not drink excessive amounts of alcohol.
- Check with your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms: headache which starts at the back of the head and radiates forward, fast or irregular heartbeat.
- Do not stop taking this medicine without first consulting your doctor.
- Before having any kind of surgery, tell the doctor that you are using (Generic Manerix/Aurorix - moclobemide) or have used it within the last 14 days.
- After stop using this medicine, you must continue to exercise caution for at least 7-14 days
